Get to know the charming region of Kvarner, Croatia
Even though Kvarner is probably not the first destination, when you hear about Croatia, it is still special and full of hidden secrets and treasures, just waiting for you to enjoy and to explore. From cities, like Opatija, Crikvenica and maritime Rijeka, to the islands: Krk, Cres, the healing island of Lošinj, Rab and more – Kvarner definitely offers something for every taste.
The region is frequently named as the fragrant gates of the Adriatic. Culture and other festivities are celebrated through the entire year, with festivals and many other events, attended by domestic and foreign visitors. Gastronomy is also an important part of the offer in the region – you will be able to taste some of the most authentic flavours of Croatia, from truffles to excellent olive oil, combined with wine and the gastronomy wonders either in local “konobas” or in the Michelin-star restaurants.
Kvarner offers the most diverse pleasures to the curious gourmet. From Učka it is the extension of Istria towards Dalmatia. Croatia’s largest islands (Cres and Krk) are part of this cluster, and then the mountain massifs of Gorski Kotar and Lika. Top quality fish, crabs and other seafood at the markets find themselves alongside forest produce: mushrooms, forest fruits, wild game and in the finale some of the best cheeses in Croatia, made from cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk from mountain, coastal and island pastures. And these are just some of the key attractions which must also include snails, frogs, honey and for many the greatest ace of Croatian gastronomy – lamb in all its many variations – from Pag, Cres, Krk, Rab, Lika and so on.
Opatija, also know as the queen of Adriatic, is located the North of Kvarner region. Charming coastal resort used to be a beloved holiday and relax destination of the European monarchies and nobility. The town has kept its charm until today – romantic promenade, picturesque architecture and plenty of activities will make sure, that every visitor will fell in love with Opatija and its surroundings.
As it is located in the northern part of Croatia, it is easily reachable not only by plane, but also by car from the nearby European countries. Opatija is the perfect spot, for a short stay on a tour or for longer holiday break. Not only in summer, mild Mediterranean climate ensures the region can also be enjoyed during the colder months of the year.
Kvarner is perfect destination for all beach, culture, and nature lovers.
